Obituary

Ellis H. Brown, 91, of Northbrook, IL passed away peacefully surrounded by his four beloved sons on Tuesday, January 17th, 2017; devoted husband to his wife Marilyn nee Kaufman for 66 years and father of Jay (Lonnie), Ben (Alison), Jack (Julie) and Marc (Joanne). Cherished grandfather to Stephanie (Mark), Jennifer, James (the late Keely), Ella, Beth, Randall, Brian, Rachel, Max (Amanda), Nikki, Elana and Rose; proud Great-Grandfather to Jagger, James and Damian. Ellis played football for the University of Illinois before being inducted into the Navy, and was selected for the V-12 Officer training program at Northwestern, where he played football and also received a letter in wrestling. He graduated with a degree in Accounting. Born and raised in Champaign, IL he began working at his father’s scrapyard. Ellis and Marilyn had their four sons in Champaign before moving to Chicago in 1961. He worked as an accountant for several companies before being hired as Controller for Simmons Refining, where he ultimately became President. When that company was sold in 1982, he founded Mid- States Recycling, where he remained involved as long as his health allowed. He was an avid life-long football and basketball fan of University of Illinois, as well as the Chicago Bears and Bulls. He enjoyed making speeches and toasts at family functions as well as professional events. Known for his kindness, generosity, as well as his clever sense of humor, he was loved by everybody that knew him and will be greatly missed.
